Gross area was increased because of the crises cotton growing in the USA. Prices in raw were increased in two times. Unfortunately it was a temporary phenomenon. However cultivated areas continued to grow. The reasons of it were the circumstances of abolition of serfage. Burdened by taxes and imposts peasants were forced to work for landlords for a scanty fee. Also the building of railways promoted the rise of cultivated areas in non black earth zones in Russia.
The extension of sowing has resulted in extension of the fibre export. Sowings in Western Europe were shorten. Russia became the major importer of linum fibre in the world.
The extension of sowing badly showed up in the development of feed crop. The extension of feed crop has resulted in extension of cattle breeding. The extension of fertilizer, crops and the rise of taxes. Peasants trying to earn, rented earth for flax growing.
Subsequently instead of renting the earth, peasants started to leave their homes and depart to new areas with their families. At the same time conditions of marketing became worse, the prices in raw were increased. Linum became the object of speculation.
